These tours are unique in that we do not stay in the 5-star tourist hotels or eat in the tourist restaurants. Instead, we stay in local homes with area families, area pensions (bed & breakfast) or private apartments, or hotels that cater to the local and area residents (in Egypt we occasionally stay with Bedouins in Bedouin desert tents). We also eat the local food (not McDonald’s or KFC) and involve ourselves as much as possible and feasible into the local customs and culture. We use local transportation (train, automobile, vans, camels, horses and so on) to get to our destinations. Typical for these tours is that along with the traditional “tourist sites” the tour guest will visit areas and sites that are off the typical tourist beaten path and are not necessarily detailed in anyone’s tourist guide, yet are fascinating, educational, intriguing, and very much cultural. All along the tour route, Ron will share the history that relates to the site and its significance relative to the local and/or the country’s history. In addition, there will be many opportunities to be involved with other outside activities that are usually not part of a typical tourist tour. These include attending a Bedouin feast, staying with Bedouins, Nile River ride on the local boats (not tourist boats), climbing mountains in the Alps, Arabian horse rides in the Sahara, camel rides in the Sarah, mid-night picnic in the Sahara with a breakfast at sunrise over-looking the Giza Pyramids, spending the night in monasteries, spending the night in Medieval castles and much more.
